Luke Humphries knows there is a long way to go in the World Darts Championship but he enjoyed a spectacular opening night at Alexandra Palace with a perfect win, a great atmosphere and a memory to remember.
Humphries hit the airwaves when he was announced as the headliner for the opening night at Alexandra Palace, leading the crowd as he sang his song ‘I’m Predicting Riot’.
Although not the classic ‘Cool Hand’, the world No. 1 snapped a nine-leg streak with a 3-0 win to progress swiftly and safely into the third round after Christmas.
Humphries was candid about his win, admitting he wasn’t very “clinical”, but praised the crowd as one of the most special he’s ever had.

“It wasn’t very good for me,” Humphries said. “I didn’t feel like I was in the hospital that much at the time. I’ll be honest, after the walk—I was a little taken back when the team was so amazing.
“They were honestly one of the best crowds I’ve ever been in a room with. They should all be proud of themselves. They made me feel amazing and I don’t get that often, so it was great.
“It wasn’t anywhere near my best, but I’ve said in a lot of interviews before that it’s two different games. Now, you go to the second round of the game and come back after Christmas and really think about being a world champion.”

Humphries will now face Raymond van Barneveld, Nick Kenny or Stowe Buntz in the third round and while not trying to push himself, he knows that being a back-to-back world champion would be the best way to fight. a very strong year.
“I am very proud of the last 12 months, for me it has been one of the best years for a world champion since Michael van Gerwen won,” he added.
“Even though I won’t win again I’m proud of the year I’ve had, but it would be a great way to continue if I can become a world champion. But I have five games to go. .”

Luke Humphries says his rival Luke Littler is pushing him to change as he looks back on the 2024 star.
“Tricole will be disappointed because he let Humphries off the hook in the opening few laps. But from there, Luke was just happy,” Webster said.
“When he spoke to us earlier, he said he wouldn’t mind training. It was just about winning, getting to the Christmas break.
“He’s done that, and he’s got plenty of time now. That’s a perfect night. No legs fell off, and he can’t complain. It sounded like he was enjoying it out there.”
