Wolves will replace Lemina as captain after the line-up

Wolves have stripped midfielder Mario Lemina of his captaincy after an on-field altercation with them late in Monday night’s win at West Ham.

Lemina, 31, clashed with Jarrod Bowen as the pair went to shake hands as tempers flared after West Ham’s 2-1 win at the London Stadium.

Lemina apologized earlier in the week, but boss Gary O’Neil revealed that Nelson Semedo will take the reins going forward, starting with Saturday’s clash with Ipswich.

O’Neil said in his pre-match press conference: “The conversation with Mario was great. We get along very, very well.

“He has been a big part of what we have been doing here and we respect each other a lot. Sometimes you can come out of these conversations in a better place and I think we did.

“I have a lot of respect for Mario and what he will be able to do for us.

“When we do well on the field, his level is very high and he still supports us in the big role he wants to play.

“He would still have a great team leading the team, but at this point we feel it’s best for Nelson to lead the team.

“The most important thing is to get the best from everyone – get the best from Mario Lemina week in, week out, the same for Nelson and the whole team.

“We dealt with it earlier this week and the focus was on Ipswich, Mario is ready, Nelson is ready and the rest of the players are ready.”

Joao Gomes will miss the clash through suspension, while Jose Sa and Pablo Sarabia are sidelined along with long-term absentees Yerson Mosquera, Sasa Kalajdzic, Enzo Gonzalez and Bouba Traore.
