We’re sure you’ve been in this situation before: reaching into your pantry and looking forward to an energy boost, only to realize your pre-workout deadline has passed. But a look inside the container reveals that it looks good. You sniff it and it smells OK. Then, think to yourself: Does it expire before training?
You don’t want to be wasteful, but you’re not sure if rolling the dice is worth it… So what do you do?
Go ahead and hang up your detective hat. The best way to determine if it’s yours or not before training has expired if you look at the expiration date printed on the package, says Paul Falcone, MS, chief scientist at BODi. “These dates are established after testing to guarantee the quality, potency and effectiveness of the product within that time frame,” says Falcone.
In addition, discolored or clumped pre-workout powder can also be signs that it has been left out for too long and has gone bad.
Beachbody Performance EnergizeThe company’s active ingredients are carefully formulated to help optimize athletic performance.* Caffeine, beta-alanineand quercetin they work to increase energy, delay fatigue and maintain laser-sharp focus.
However, the only way to be sure to get one optimal benefits of Beachbody Performance Energize (or any other pre-workout supplement) is to consume as directed and before the expiration date.
While it is best to leave some time between drinking a pre-workout drink and hitting the gym (30 to 60 minutes is ideal), you should avoid pre-workout prep too far in advance. “We recommend drinking pre-workout immediately after mixing, or as directed on the packaging of these products,” says Falcone.
Packages on the move Beachbody Performance Energize — because they include one serving and don’t require measuring — make pre-workout prep easy anywhere there’s a water source. Just don’t forget your bottle!
Almost everything that is intended for consumption has an expiration date. Food supplements, just like an apple, are sensitive to air and moisture and will begin to break down over time.
Based on scientific testing, expiration dates offer the most accurate time frame when it is okay to consume supplements. “Beachbody Performance Energize should retain its quality as long as it is consumed within the expiration date stated on the package,” says Falcone.
At some point, you’ve probably gambled with expired product without any side effects. Maybe you took a risk with the yogurt only expired or, in a moment of desperation, reheated that forgotten jar of spaghetti sauce that technically should have been eaten months ago.
Even though you survived to tell the tale, you probably should have just thrown the questionable item away. The same rule applies to all plugins, incl Beachbody Performance Energize.
“It’s never a good idea to consume any product past its expiration date,” says Falcone.
Preserving freshness before training comes down to proper storage conditions. Use these tips to stay fresh before your workout.
Beachbody Performance Energize‘s packaging is designed for storage, so avoid transferring (or any other Beachbody Performance product) into another container.
A shelf in direct sunlight or above the oven is probably not the best home for your pre-workout. Instead, choose a cool, dry place like a cupboard or, if you have room, put it in the fridge.
Never use a wet measuring cup before training and take care of humidity. Some rooms, like bathrooms, tend to have more moisture in the air. Find the driest place in your home to prepare before training.
