The ex-wife of Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez Valentina Cervantes has opened up about her relationship with the midfielder before they split earlier this year. Fernandez joined the Blues for £107 million in January 2023, a Premier League record at the time, which was broken by Moises CaicedoThat’s £115 million.
The pair split in October, with the 23-year-old struggling for several minutes. He has returned to form and has scored 10 goals in eight competitive games since the start of November Chelsea.
In a recent interview with Game, Set & Match, Cervantes spoke about his relationship with the player and his amicable split. A social media agent said (via the Daily Mail):
“Everything was fine and suddenly one day he told me he didn’t want to be anymore. There are things I have to fix, but that’s it, I agreed. When we met, I worked in an empanada restaurant and I was there. He studied law. He was at the bottom of the river and then he played in the storage team.
“At that time I got more money than what his representative gave him, we spent all my salary, I had nothing to save. And 9 months later I got pregnant with Olivia, I was 19 years old.”
When asked if she was still in love with Fernandez, Cervantes replied:
“I think that love is still there because it is very difficult to leave quickly. I do not depend on a man or anyone else to make me happy. When I am with my children I will always be happy.”
Chelsea face Irish side Shamrock Rivers in the Conference League on Thursday night (December 19).
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has paid attention to Enzo Fernandez’s reaction to his lack of games. The Italian believes that Fernandez can be an example for the rest of his teammates.
At the end of October, before Fernandez got into shape, Maresca he talked about the lack of playing time for the playersexplaining Chelsea’s need for physicality in the middle of the park.
Now that Fernandez has turned things around, Maresca has praised the midfielder for his training despite struggling to break into the first team. The Chelsea manager said (on the club’s official website):
“Enzo is a great example, Noni (Madeueke) is the same, even when he was not playing, he was doing the right thing, it was my decision to leave him but it was not because he was training wrong or doing well. The behavior was not right.
“Sometimes, when you leave players you hurt them and encourage them to give more, but Enzo can be a good example for the rest.”
