Courtesy of Netflix Virgin River’s most adored couple is finally about to say “I do” — and their wedding will be the event not to be missed in Season 6. “It’s been six seasons in the making,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith exclusively said. Us Weekly ahead of Season 6, which hits Netflix on Thursday, December 19. “When we (…)

Despite their attempts at dating other people, the season 5 Christmas episodes proved that there were still some big sparks between them. When Season 6 premiered on Thursday, December 19, viewers watched as the exes gave in to their desires and slept together on a pool table at Jack’s bar.

“However, I feel like it’s building, the tension (between them),” Allen said of the two’s shocking experience. “There’s so much spark between them. Even if they’re not talking, they’re dating other people. It’s just there, always.”

With a smile she added, “I think people will like it.”

While the intimate moment certainly came as a surprise when reading the script, Allen said she and Hollingsworth, 40, were completely on board after a period of not working together.

“We were just thrilled to have such a beautiful and juicy scene,” she explained. “And I think what that scene does for me — beyond it being, like, so sexy and steamy and the Brie and Brady chemistry that we all know and love — is that the writers gave them both a moment to admit that neither of them felt loveable.”

Allen noted the complexity of the moment between the two exes, pointing out that Brady — who had just discovered his girlfriend had been trying to steal his money behind his back — was dealing with the fallout from Lark’s “betrayal.” She added that both characters come from “a very low place of self-worth.”

As for filming the scene – which was one of the show’s more racy moments in its six seasons – Ellen said she and Hollingworth were completely comfortable as the pair had had the “pleasure” of working together for four seasons.

“And our first scene ever together was a makeup scene,” she said with a laugh. “So we felt safe with each other from the beginning. I’m really, really grateful for that. I think we both do. There’s just a given line of respect.”

Allen also revealed that the scene changed over time, with the original script setting the location in Brody’s room above Jack’s bar – the same room where Bree lived – instead of on the pool table downstairs. But Allen and Hollingsworth had a different idea.

“Ben and I were reading it and talking about it and he was like, ‘Man, we’ve seen scenes up there before.’ I’m like, ‘I know.’ And we kind of riffed,” she recalled. “And then Ben was like, ‘What about the pool table?’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s outrageous!’ And he was like, ‘Let’s say it.’ So we did and they went for it. And I’m so happy because I think it’s kind of iconic!”

The aftermath of their betrayal was a major focus of Season 6. Brady—who dumped Lark for cheating on him only to take her back—confessed his undying love to Brie at Mel and Jack’s wedding when Lark eavesdropped on the conversation. Brie, meanwhile, confessed her secret to Mike, who responded by revealing that he knew about the affair from the beginning before he got down on one knee to propose.

The credits rolled before Brie could make her decision, but Allen told us andAnd you can expect season 7 to focus heavily on her “dealing” with whether she made the right decision – whatever that may be.

“Many of us know what it’s like to make a decision that’s based on logic and analysis and beyond, ‘This is why I need to do something or be with this person.’ And then there’s this undeniable thing, that chemistry that doesn’t die overnight,” she said. “It’s hard to reconcile what that is. I don’t think it’s going to be, like, wrapped in a bow.”

So where does Ellen stand when it comes to the future of her character? Brie and Bridie were a fan-favorite couple from the jump, after all. “I’ll be walking down the street and out of nowhere a stranger will yell, ‘Team Brady!'” Allen said with a laugh.

However, many of Allen’s teammates feel differently. Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin HendersonFor example, they both told us Earlier this month they think Mike is the better choice. Ellen, for her part, is still undecided.

“Brie needs to be real with herself,” she explained. “I think she has an old identity that she’s still working on. The one that was really good at everything, she was amazing at her job. Nothing could get past her. And then this huge betrayal with her sexual assault with her ex completely changed her sense of self. I think she’s still trying to hold on to an old sense of herself, so until she really starts to get along with who she is now, and softens, it won’t be clear to any of us.”

No matter where Brie goes in Season 7 and beyond, Ellen is already along for the ride — “That’s my girl,” she tweeted — and she’s embracing the lessons she’s learned from Brie along the way.

“As cheesy as it sounds, I always like to think that roles choose me, because however this character appears in this metamorphic field will need some of my qualities to help them on their journey,” she explained. “On the contrary, I need some of what they have to offer.”

Virgin River fans can expect a lot more romance and fun when the show returns for season 6. “I think my intention was never for the next few seasons to match the intensity of season five,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2023. “I would say going in For season 6, I mean (…)

She continued, “I think Brie is, in a lot of ways, a lot stronger than I am. I’m a little softer and I wear my heart on my sleeve more. And I think Brie could use some of that, you know, where she’s going to be really independent and charging hard. I think her vulnerability is both her strength and the thing that she fears will weaken her. So I think maybe I bring that more to this character as we grow together. Then I’ve had to borrow from Brie over the years In terms of being much more of an advocate for myself.”

“She helped strengthen me,” Allen explained. “And I really appreciate that.”
