“Hey guys, there’s really nothing to worry about at this point. I just can’t move. I’ve got a pretty good abrasion and something stabbed me under her toes,” Shiffrin said Instagram on Saturday, showing a close-up of the injury and a woman helping her. “So I just can’t move. I’m so sorry to scare everyone and all the scans so far seem to be clear so thanks for the support and concern and congratulations to the winners and my teammates on their amazing performances.”
“Thank you for the encouragement and support. I wish my teammates the best of luck tomorrow!!” Shiffrin wrote her post. “I’ll be cheering from the sidelines for this.๐โค๏ธ.”
The next day, the US Ski and Snowboard Team shared a statement on her tombstone. “Following her crash in the giant slalom yesterday at the Stiple Killington Cup, Mikaela was taken down by sled and transported by ambulance for evaluation at Rutland Regional Medical Center,” the team wrote via social media. “No ligament damage was assessed. Bones and internal organs appear fine. There is a stab wound on the right side of her abdomen and severe muscle trauma. Her return to the snow is TBD and more information will be forthcoming.”

American alpine skier Michaela Shiffrin Stretched from the course following a crash while competing in the 2024/25 FIS Annual Alpine Skiing World Cup.
Shifrin, 29 years old, is already the most successful alpine skier of all time. She would have celebrated her 100th World Cup win had she not crashed the women’s giant slalom in her second run during the Steeple Killington Cup in Killington, Vermont, on Saturday, November 30.
Shiffrin led by 0.32 seconds during her first run in the slalom, but crashed into the safety fence on the side of the slope during her second attempt. She was taken down the slope in a sled, according to the official Olympics website, and received polite applause from the audience.
US Ski & Snowboard shared an update on the condition of the two-time Olympic gold medalist via X following the crash, saying her condition was “assessed.”

“Mikaela took off her sled and is currently being evaluated. More information to come, but take comfort in the fact that she asked about her splits,” US Ski and Snowboard said in a statement via X.

“It’s so sad of course for Mikaela, a crash like that after she’s been skiing so well. It breaks my heart,” Hector said on the air after Shiffrin’s crash, according to ESPN.
“The course and the conditions are really spectacular,” Shiffrin said ReutersAfter finishing her first run ahead of Hector. “It’s pretty simple and I think there might be some spots on the hill with some rocks that kind of float on the surface when people ski.”

She continued, “Some of the skiers that go down, they look fine, and then their skis just slide out. And the surface is actually really great so I don’t think it’s a matter of not having enough grip so much that you hit a rock and you lose your edge.”
If she doesn’t get injured, Shiffrin will have another shot at her 100th win during the slalom event on Sunday, December 1. Earlier this year she suffered a knee injury as a result of a high-speed crash during the World Cup Downhill in Cortina D. ‘Ampezzo, Italy.
Shiffrin has already dealt with another big fall this year – just not hers. In July, Shiffrin’s fiance, Source Alexander Amodetwho is also a skier, was sent to the hospital after a skiing accident.
