Veteran fighter Gabe Rosado says David Morrell will need to “set traps” to hurt boxer David Benavidez in their fight at 48 on February 1st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Rosado does not think Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) can match the output of Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) and could be knocked down by him and buried with volume.
Many fans consider Benavidez to be more experienced than Morrell, and his volume makes him a challenge. However, Cuban Morrell’s power, movement, and boxing skills give him a huge advantage. After one fight at 175, Morrell looks more worthy of the split than Benavidez.
Morrell will put his WBA ‘permanent’ light heavyweight title on the line against Benavidez, who holds the WBC title for the PBC on. Prime Video PPV. The winner of this fight can compete in the undisputed championship at 175.
“David Morrell vs. David Benavidez. I like Benavidez, but you can’t sleep on Morrell,” said Gabe Rosado Hit Hub TV of the February 1 match between the two fighters. “Benavidez didn’t deserve this fight. Morrell is the one who deserves this fight.
“Morrell hit the jackpot. So, if he’s going to win this fight, he’s there, because nobody’s calling Morrell. So, that kind of shows what kind of dog Benavidez is. He’s like, ‘Okay, whatever. Let’s run.’
“No one does that with Benavidez,” Rosado said of Benavidez trash-talking Morrell during their match. “It’s going to be fireworks. They will all argue. It will be a matter of who can take it because they are all going to shoot.
This is a good fight for Morrell to prove himself against a guy that many fans feel is a star of the future. Benavidez has been holding back for the past 11 years, choosing to fight at 168 instead of 175, where he has more opportunities to fight and entertain. Had he stepped up to the lighter weight in 2014, his career would have continued. Benavidez foolishly thought Canelo Alvarez would fight him, and waited 10 years. His fault!
“I think Morrell is the bigger of the two, but Benavidez knocks you out with volume,” Rosado said. “So, what will win?” Will it be power or will it be volume? This is what it will come down to because I don’t think Morrell can match Benavidez’s volume. “
There is no guess as to who is the better puncher between Morrell and Benavidez. It makes sense Morrell. Would Benavidez be a great puncher if he wasn’t focused on punching volume? Maybe, but he likes to throw punches in groups rather than lifts.
“He’s always punching above you. He never gets tired. So, Mr. Morrell has to set traps to destroy the war,” Rosado said.
Benavidez gets tired. We saw this in his last fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15. He was tired after six rounds and took a lot of hard punches from Gvozdyk in the second half of the fight.
