Postecoglou defends Tottenham players after drawing Fulham’s challenge

Ange Postecoglou defended his side after Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Fulham.

Spurs are looking to stay close to London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League but were unable to win against the Cottagers.

Brennan Johnson hit a volley from Timo Werner’s assist, scoring his 10th goal of the season and lifting a Spurs side missing Dominic Solanke through illness.

Fulham, however, equalized when substitute Tom Cairney shot Fraser Forster in the 67th minute, although Cairney was later sent off following a VAR review for a tackle on Kulusevski.

The result leaves Tottenham in seventh place, just a week after their impressive 4-0 win over Manchester City.

Despite the difficulties, Postecoglou stressed the importance of protecting his players amid the injury and availability crisis.

“We have to protect our players because as I said, we are more and Deki has played every minute. I usually don’t take him off,” said Postecoglou.

“Therefore, we have to be careful with him and with a few others, but at the moment we don’t have many options, so we have to try to control them as much as possible and obviously. which affects the performance.

“It’s easy to say, let’s just play the way we do against Man City every game.

“And it also seems with this club that everything we do well is used as a millstone to knock us down at every opportunity.

“I think the way I see it, I’m still saying, it’s important that we don’t do any of this and just look at it.

“Sometimes I just feel like, especially the players we have right now, they’re just working hard to get the football team to where we want to be.

“We are fine, we are still fine. We are still in a good position in the league.

“We’re still in the Carabao Cup, we’re in a good place in Europe, so it’s encouraged us to keep doing well.”
