Pete Davidson Wants to be known for his work, not as “that loser.” who goes out with people.”
the Saturday Night Live Alum spoke to him in a magazine On his public perception and how his celebrity has infiltrated his personal and professional life.
“I just want to be known for doing good work,” said Davidson, 31. “I only want to be there when it’s movies, stand-up, charity or business ventures. That’s when I want to be seen. I don’t want to be this crazy loser who just goes out with people. That’s not who I am.”
Like it or not, Davidson’s love life has been anything but private. The comedian and the actor were for a short time engaged to Ariana Grande Before he went on to date other A-list celebrities Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, Kazee David, Emily Ratajkowski and Madeline Kline.
Reflects on his career in the spotlight – which included a run of eight seasons SNLA starring role in his semi-autobiographical film King of Staten Islandand a starring and executive producer title for a 2019 comedy Big time puberty – Davidson now admits he was “oversaturated.”
“on The SopranosThere’s this line from Tony that says, ‘Ever feel like you’re walking into something at the end? When the good times are over?’ This is how I feel about show business and being a celebrity. It’s over,” he said.
He added, “I made the mistake of doing absolutely everything. Now I’m older and wiser, and I understand that less is more.”
As a result, Davidson has been laying low lately – focusing on, of all things, socks. Recently appointed creative director of colorful hosiery brand Doublesoul, he said the product is “comfortable and sexy, and the name is cool.” Working with founders Ben Rosenbaum and Allison StromeyerDavidson immediately found himself coming up with ideas that, according to Stromeyer, “reflected his deep insight into what shapes cultural relevance.”
Davidson doesn’t plan to stop there either. Knowing that his out and out fashion sense has caught the attention of fans in the past, his eccentric look is an aspect of his celebrity that he seems to embrace.
According to the actor, he would be interested in doing more in the field of fashion – if that means staying “behind the scenes” without being one of those celebrities who push their brand to their followers.
This new line of work is a complete change from acting and comedy, and Davidson seems to have welcomed it.
“People hate celebrities now,” he added. “The media takes a handful of celebs every two years, and they just destroy them. For some reason, I’m one of the people they chose to go after. It’s actually, in a way, a blessing, because it allowed me to take a step back and evaluate things.”
Now that he’s testing, Davidson doesn’t have to think of himself as that “loser who dates people.”
“That voice was very strong in my head for a while,” he admitted.
