Guardiola later apologized for his comments, and issued a statement X insisting that he did not want to hurt himself.

“I was surprised by a question at the end of last night’s press conference about the scratch that appeared on my face and explained that a sharp fingernail caused it by accident,” wrote Guardiola.

“My answer was not to underestimate the serious issue of self-harm.

Pep Guardiola: I’m not good enough

Guardiola was asked how he would improve City’s form after Sunday’s game, but the manager complained that he was “not good” and “not doing well” under pressure.

“All I have to do is keep working, I’m a boss, a manager and I’m not good enough, it’s as simple as that,” Guardiola said (via. Sky Sports).

“I have to find a way to talk to them, teach them how we play, pressure, build and I’m not good enough, I’m not doing well, that’s the truth.

“It happens, it’s football, go ahead.”
