The head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid Felt the holiday spirit on Christmas Day – but quarterback Patrick Mahomes Said it might be time for Reid to hang up his Santa suit.
Reed, 66, Surprised his team dressed as Santa Claus in the locker room after the Chiefs’ 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, Dec. 25. The celebratory cameo sparked a backlash from his players, however, Mahomes, 29, joked that his coach’s look was becoming more and more like Ould’s. Saint Nick himself.
“He’s getting pretty skinny. He’s getting a little skinny for Santa,” Mahomes said told reporters after the game
Still, Mahomes admitted Reed “fits the role perfectly.”
“It’s good for his health,” Mahomes said of his coach’s apparent weight loss, “so he’ll be Santa Skinny from now on.”
Reed previously dressed up as Santa for the Chiefs’ Christmas Eve game against the Miami Dolphins in 2017, fielding questions from reporters dressed in a suit — which Mahomes vaguely remembered.
“I believe my freshman year when I didn’t start he might have done it,” the quarterback recalled.
Indeed, Mahomes took over as Kansas City’s starting quarterback in 2018 after serving as Tyler BrayOne season backup.
Reid – who has looked noticeably slimmer from the sideline this season – told reporters that “one of my elves” had packed the Santa suit for the big Christmas surprise.
“I can’t tell you the secrets,” Reid said slyly. “But there was an elf involved. To all the non-believers out there, doggy.”
As for Santa’s arrival in the locker room on Wednesday, he arrived with a much-desired gift for the assembled players.
“What about those chips!” exclaimed Reed, as Santa. “That’s what I’m talking about! Hey, happy holiday, men. Proud of you, fellas! Proud of you. Meanwhile, you get home field advantage!”

The Chiefs close out the regular season on Sunday, January 5, against the Denver Broncos. Their first-round bye ensures they won’t open the playoffs until the AFC Divisional Round, which begins on Sunday, January 18.
