Manchester City now they are talking about signing a new player, and Pep Guardiola will be looking to strengthen his team this month after what has been a disappointing performance so far.
Following just one win in nine Premier League The games that started from November until Boxing Day, Manchester City is back to winning ways. After beating Leicester City 2-0 just before the end of the year, Guardiola’s side kicked off 2025 by beating West Ham United 4-1 at the Etihad.
Erling Haaland scored twice on the day to take his tally to 16 of the season, while Phil Foden was on the mark for just the second time this campaign.
But while the goals reminded City of the past, action was no longer necessary, as the Sky Blues grabbed chance after chance which, luckily for them, West Ham squandered.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola admitted that there is a lot of work to be done if his team returns to the form that saw them win four Premier League titles in passing.
“(Is) the old Manchester City and the way we play back? No. You have to know. You watched the game for years. We are not at the level, come on. Of course, there are a lot of good surprises. But if you ask me if the team is playing like it played years ago, no, no.”
In order to help City return to their former form, Guardiola is said to be looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, and according to midfielder Fabrizio Romano, he wants the RC Lens defender. Abdukodir Khusanov. There were reports that City had entered the race for the player, and now it has happened.
Romano now claims City are holding talks with the Ligue 1 side for the 20-year-old centre-back, who has impressed with the Blood and Gold this season.
Khusanov, who has 18 games for the national team of Uzbekistan, was described by Talent Scout footballer Jacek Kulig as “the best player” at the back and “the future legend of Uzbek football.”
Lens head coach Will Still praised Khusanov, to say about him earlier this season: “He is slow, strong, and fast. He doesn’t talk but he’s nice. He has the ability to be very impressive,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lens director Pierre Dreossi recently told DAZN, via Mail Online, that Khusanov “left” Stade Bollaert-Delelis in January, but that “there have been no good promotions.”
Cristiano Ronaldo’s former assistant, Jorge Mendes, has been selected to try and sell Khusanov, and it looks like a move to the Etihad will be a sight to behold.
