FIFA president Gianni Infantino today hailed football’s power to “unite the world” after taking a leading role in handing Saudi Arabia the most divisive World Cup since the final.

The World Cup is part of Bin Salman’s vision
Hosting the World Cup will strengthen Saudi Arabia’s influence in international sports. De-facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman has made sports a key part of his Vision 2030 plan which aims to diversify the economy and raise the country’s profile abroad.
It has hosted high-profile boxing matches, Formula One, the Club World Cup and major tennis events, as well as – through the Public Investment Fund – launching the LIV Golf Tour and buying Premier League club Newcastle United.
However, concerns remain over his human rights record. World Cup 2034 could be in 2035
