We’ve had quite a few zombie privileges in the last decade, but one that hasn’t been seen in a long time is that Return of the Living Dead movies. The last film didn’t come out until 2005, but it looked like things were about to change when a new movie was announced in 2023. Fortunately for fans, the series will officially return next year, just in time for the first film’s 40th anniversary.
Then a handful teaser images on Friday, the studio released a teaser for the next film, also titled Welcome back Dead. Instead of being a reboot as originally thought, it is actually a sequel to the original film; set almost two years later, in the winter of 1985, Tharman the zombie is back on the loose and trying to wreak some havoc in the unnamed Pennsylvania town where the new movie is set.Living Dead said not to expect any returning characters from the first film, given their “horrific fates,” but teased audiences “will be treated to a darkly humorous, sexual, violent, With fans of Trioxin-fueled horror around the world.”
The first Return of the Living Dead centers on a zombie-infested town that suddenly rises after a poison gas accidentally reanimates all of its corpses. In a press release, director/writer Steve Walsh set up the teaser, revealing that it was created entirely with practical effects and on location, and the cemetery that goes by Tharman, was built to replicate the Resurrection Cemetery of the first film.“Using our widescreen anamorphic lenses, we We’ve captured realistic snow effects swirling across the night sky, which gives it an amazing look and texture,” he said. “It will amaze people to see a whole movie shot like this.”
