Hilton Cartwright gives Phillips Hughes’ flashback after being dropped from the BBL


Melbourne Stars batsman Hilton Cartwright suffered a career-threatening injury during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL 2024-25) match against the Perth Scorchers. The match between the two teams is being held at the Perth Stadium in Perth.

In what will be a big blow for the Melbourne Stars, Hilton Cartwright suffered a serious injury in the first match of the Big Bash League. It happened during the second half of the game when the batsmen tried to save the boundary and got injured.

On the third ball of the 13th over, Adam Milne gave it all to Cooper Connolly as he came close to slotting into the gap. Hilton Cartwright put on a sprint as he went left from a sweeping cover and laid down to try and pull the ball. However, he kicked the ball into the cushions and immediately went down.

Cartwright injured his left shoulder when he landed on his left shoulder and also damaged his neck area. The physios immediately rushed to attend to the batsman and stretchers were outside to take him off the field.

Hilton Cartwright was also made to wear a necklace around his neck. Before he was lifted into a wheelchair. Thanks to his luck, he was able to recognize and speak even when he was lying with his eyes closed. He was taken slowly to the hospital.

Hilton took him to hospital to have his neck checked – Melbourne Stars

After the injury, the Melbourne Stars released a statement about the hit and said they took him to hospital to have his neck checked. The franchise also added that they will be offering batter updates soon.

A statement from the franchise said: “Hilton has been taken to the hospital to have his throat checked. We will let everyone know when we have more information.”

Hilton Cartwright did not fare well with the bat as he only managed 18 runs with the bat. He came in to bat 5 and looks scratchy. Cartwright faced 17 balls as he stayed at the crease and hit just one in his innings.

With the batting he has fought, it seems like this has been the canvas for him in this edition of the Big Bash League. Melbourne Stars will hope that he can regain his strength and return to the team at the end of the ongoing competition.
