Glasner gives the struggling Nketiah confidence

Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner is confident that goals will come to Eddie Nketiah before he returns to the Emirates Stadium against Crystal Palace tomorrow night.

England international Nketiah came through Arsenal’s academy and spent seven years at the club before switching from north to south London in the summer for a £25million fee.

He found it difficult at Selhurst Park, scoring just once in 13 games.

Nketiah impressed after coming on as a second-half substitute in Sunday’s 3-1 win over rivals Brighton and Glasner will be hoping it can kick-start his Palace career.

He said: “He is very ambitious and works hard. He was thrown back by injuries and during his injuries the team started winning games and started playing better and better.

“He did really well at Brighton along with Daichi Kamada because we fought hard at the beginning of the second half, we didn’t struggle with the ball. Once he came on he worked really hard and the game improved.

“He got help from (Ismaila) Sarr and he was also very lucky.

“You can see that maybe he doesn’t have a lot of confidence and that’s normal when you’re a player because he wants to score. My experience is, if a player works as hard as he does then he will get his reward.

“It will be good news if they win at the Emirates.”

Nketiah will participate tomorrow

Although he did not commit to starting Nketiah in tomorrow’s EFL Cup quarter-final, Glasner said he would feature, adding: “I don’t know who will play who. We have two or three decisions to make. We don’t know if Ebs (Eze) can play and he is a player in the squad. one or two a little tired – we still have time to decide. I hope Eddie gets a moment in his old stadium.

Palace have overcome a slow start to the season and are unbeaten in five games.

The Eagles are full of confidence but Glasner admits a trip to Arsenal is always a difficult task.

“We have a lot of games to play, but it would be a big win for all of us at the Emirates,” he said.

“It’s not a place where Crystal Palace win every year, so it would be a great achievement.

“It’s going to be tough and tough for 90 minutes, but we’re confident, we feel ready, we’re fit and we’re in the dressing room.

“Everything we need before the game, we have it, but the most important thing is to show tomorrow on the pitch.”

Palace will be without Adam Wharton while Daniel Munoz is suspended.
