Enzo Maresca has made a great start for Chelsea, but there is one decision that fans and pundits are still questioning.
The Italian coach was brought to Stamford Bridge this summer to replace Mauricio Pochettino and the former Leicester boss currently has the Blues second in the Premier League and top of the Europa Conference League.
Maresca has found a way to get his Chelsea squad to do it but one decision the 44-year-old made ahead of this season’s transfer window is still being questioned by many in football.
The Blues boss decided to do so making Robert Sanchez his number one goalkeeper for the seasondespite the London club signing 22-year-old Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal in the summer.
Sanchez is a crime among Chelsea’s staff as the Spanish striker is a midfielder, who is not good with the ball at his feet and tends to make mistakes that lead to goals.
Despite this, Maresca has faith in the 27-year-old who has started every Premier League game for him in the first half of the season. Jamie Carragher is set to destroy Chelsea this season.
This will not change soon, the 44-year-old informed the press on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s game against Brentford, Maresca said Sanchez would not be relieved of his duties any time soon.
“The idea doesn’t change, we believe in Robert,” the Italian coach said via Fabrizio Romano. “But then again, we have two goalkeepers who are good. As long as it stays the same, we’re happy with it. “
This is a decision Maresca will live and die with as the season progresses as it is a decision that could have a major impact on Chelsea’s season to the end.
