Elon Musk ‘Jokingly’ Refers To Apple As ‘Tesla’s Graveyard’ And Says Steve Jobs Was ‘Kind Of A Jerk’ To Him When They Met At A Party.

Elon Musk it never comes back when it comes to Apple. From calling the company “Tesla’s grave” to criticizing its AI plans and reflecting on his unpleasant encounter with Steve Jobs, Musk’s comments clearly show that the conflict between these modern giants is personal, technical and competitive.

Back in 2015, in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt, Musk criticized Apple’s behavior. Regarding hiring former Tesla employees, he said:

“They’ve hired the people we’ve fired. We always call Apple ‘Tesla’s Graveyard.’ If you can’t afford a Tesla, you work at Apple. I’m not kidding.”

This comes from reports that Apple is working on its own electric car, the “Titan.” Musk didn’t stop at mining; he also questioned Apple’s ability to enter the car industry, saying, “Have you looked at the Apple Watch? No, it’s good that Apple is moving and investing in this area. But cars are very complicated compared to smartphones or smartwatches. You can’t just go to a supplier like Foxconn and say saying: Build me a car.”

At the time, Apple declined to comment.

Musk’s criticism was not limited to Apple’s marketing strategy. In an interview with GQ that same year, he recalled meeting Steve Jobs at a party before Jobs’ death in 2011. The meeting was not what Musk expected. “(The) one time I met Steve Jobs, he was kind of an idiot,” Musk said.

He later tried to soften his comment, explaining that his observation was based on “personal experience”. He added that Larry Pagethe founder of Google, introduced him to Jobs a few years earlier and Jobs may not have known who he was at the time.

Fast forward to today and Musk’s criticism of Apple has turned into a creative genius. After Apple announced changes to Siri that included integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Musk expressed concerns about user privacy and security. Writing on his platform, X, he called the deal an “unacceptable breach of security” and accused Apple of “not knowing what’s going on.”
