Shakur Stevenson said today that 2025 will be his “The best year ever,” which suggests that he believes he will finally get a chance to fight Gervonta Davis.
Stevenson’s crippled hands could destroy any chance of 2025 being a big one for him, and it could turn out to be his worst year yet. He is coming back from hand surgery, and has been struggling with his hands for a while now. It’s almost like they are made of glass and was not designed to fight 135.
He must have seen the interview with his promoter Eddie Hearn today where he said Shakur will fight the trio in 2025:
That’s not going to happen, though, so he’ll have to settle for whoever Hearn has to deal with. If Tank and Zepeda refuse, Hearn may have to find whoever he can. He has a keen eye for space, and there are possibilities as long as Shakur keeps an open mind.
Andy Cruz and Richardson Hitchin would be the best options if Tank or Zepeda chose not to fight Stevenson. It would help if Shakur were willing to move up to 140 to fight because there is endless potential in that weight class.
The New Jersey native is big enough to compete at light welterweight, but he lacks power in that weight class. Despite being 126 years old, Shakur had no strength and had to settle for success.
Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) should please fans with his title defense against Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) on February 22nd. That fight will be one that will be closely watched by some of the star’s promoters, who will decide if they feel Stevenson is a worthy matchup.
In Shakur’s last two fights against Artem Harutyunyan and William Zepeda, people felt that he was no match for Zepeda or Tank. Stevenson was kicked out of both fights, and the fans were moving forward, not wanting to see him run around the ring.
Stevenson closes at 28; In general, fighters cannot change their style at that age. If they’re athletic, they can’t magically transform themselves with education and power to become more interesting. They are what they are at that time.

“Shakur is taking it personally because they are competing with each other in the game,” coach Greg Hackett told YSM Sports Media about Shakur Stevenson’s anger at Tank Davis saying “No” to his professional career.
“Tank is giving people what they want (knocks). So, Shakur is upset. ‘You think you can beat me because you knocked these guys down?’ Tank’s like, ‘What are you doing? You’re fighting me. You can’t even get rid of them.’ Tank is over there with the ball right now.”
“Kid Austin didn’t prepare Shakur Stevenson. Shakur is a great boxer. He’s a lot sharper than my son. I love Kid Austin, don’t get me wrong,” said Bullet Cromwell. YSM Sports Mediastating that Floyd Schofield did not prepare Shakur Stevenson for their fight on February 22nd.
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh should give him an offer he cannot refuse to accept the fight with Stevenson if he hesitates to deal with the rush and shouts of the fans. With all the lightweights in the lineup, why would Turki spend money on Shakur when he can set up mixed matchups involving these fighters facing Tank or Zepeda:
—Edwin De Los Santos
– Raymond Muratalla
– Abdullah Mason
– Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez
– Emanuel Navarrete
– Isaac Cruz
– Keyshawn Davis
“Shakur is an Olympic silver medalist. He should be a gold medalist. If you look at the style, he’s not going to catch Shakur for nothing. The fight I want to see is Shakur and Tank. If I don’t see him, I don’t care to see him beat anybody,” Cromwell said.
“Tank can’t handle Shakur and stuff, and Shakur can’t afford to be hit by Tank.
