As he continues to dominate the scene and hide behind, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs has issued another public challenge, and has put the “Duck” tag on undefeated IBF world welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
Cobbs is a welterweight champion known more for his eccentric personality than his accomplishments inside the ring. However, Cobbs is a veteran looking for a chance to get a fight that could define his boxing career.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs began his boxing career by posting 15 straight victories. Back in March 2022, Cobbs lost his unblemished record when he was stopped by Alexis Rocha in the 9th round.
Five months later, Cobbs made a big comeback against former WBO junior-welterweight champion Maurice Hooker. In the opening round, Cobbs landed a right that was followed by a flurry of shots that sent Hooker to the canvas.
Hooker was able to get up, but Cobbs went on to score two more runs in the second round. Cobbs dominated the match from start to finish, winning by unanimous decision scores of 97-90, 97-90, and 96-91.
After Blair Cobbs made a great match, Golden Boy Promotions dropped the ball, because they neglected to give Cobbs a job. Blair “The Flair” separates himself from Golden Boy and fights the former four-time champion.
During the build-up to his fight against Adrien “The Problem” Broner, Blair Cobbs was funny, confident, strong, and focused. At the end of the Broner vs Cobbs final press conference, Blair Cobbs shouted, “This is my turn! This is my turn! This!”
On fight night, Cobbs made a statement when he hit Broner with a straight left shot that knocked out Broner’s tooth and sent the former four-division champion to the canvas. Broner was able to get up, but Cobbs dominated the rest of the fight as he earned a unanimous decision victory.
Since defeating Broner, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs) has put the Philadelphia native on his radar. After watching Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) defeat Karen Chukhadzhian at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Cobbs snuck into the press conference after the fight and said why Ennis should fight him.
“We know two options you want to choose, but there’s a third option,” Cobbs said. “This third round is the most exciting man in boxing, Blair “The Flair” to fight Jaron “Boots” Ennis in the main event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, woo!
Agent Eddie Hearn quickly intervened when he talked about Ennis’ plan to unify at 147 or fight a big name at 154. As time went on, the unification opportunity was never made, and recently, Ennis turned down the opportunity to meet Vergil Ortiz at. 154.
As things stand for Jaron Ennis, his hometown rival is back, looking for an opportunity to fight for the IBF welterweight title. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Blair “The Flair” pleaded his case.
“You say, I want to go to 154, then someone calls your bluff at 154, then you quickly change your mind to say I want to be at 147, and you can’t combine these titles because everyone has a fight.”
Blair Cobbs went on to say, “Why don’t we make Blair “The Flair” fight happen, where we can have big attractions, big excitement in a boxing match in the welterweight division with two Philadelphia fighters? I don’t know what they’re doing except ducking.”
34-year-old Blair Cobbs believes 27-year-old Jaron Ennis is a duck looking for an easy way to success. Currently, Jaron Ennis does not have a fight planned, and until he finds an opponent, Blair Cobbs plans to constantly press and try to get a title shot that has failed.
