Bellingham continues to score well as Real Madrid bounce back against Girona

Jude Bellingham found the net for a fifth consecutive La Liga game as Real Madrid suffered a midweek defeat to Girona.

Bellingham, Arda Guler and Kylian Mbappe all scored as Los Blancos saw off Girona 3-0 at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Saturday.

The 21-year-old England international becomes the first Real player since Karim Benzema in 2021 to score in five consecutive games.

Bellingham had not found the back of the net this season before the goal.

Real’s number five opened the scoring on 36 minutes before setting up Guler for his team’s second after the break.

Bellingham was then replaced by Dani Ceballos after a knock.

Real added a third when Kylian Mbappe scored his ninth La Liga goal after being picked out by Luka Modric.

The result comes just three days after Madrid lost 2-1 to fast-rising Athletic Club and sent Carlo Ancelotti’s side within two points of leaders Barcelona with a game in hand.

Real Catalan rivals drew 2-2 at Real Betis earlier in the day. Robert Lewandowski scored his 23rd goal in 21 games for the club this season but it was not enough to prevent Barcelona from dropping points for the fourth time in five La Liga games.

Lewandowski found the net in the 39th minute at the Benito Villamarin Stadium before Giovani Lo Celso equalized from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after Frenkie de Jong was sent off for bringing down former Barca team-mate Vitor Roque.

Ferran Torres restored the visitors’ lead but Betis grabbed a 94th-minute goal courtesy of Assane Diao to secure a 2-2 draw.

Next up for Real is a trip to Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Barcelona travel to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
