Barcelona’s appeal against Hansi Flick’s sending-off against Real Betis has been rejected, meaning he will be ruled out of Sunday’s match against Leganes.
Flick received a red card for shouting at the official in the 2-2 draw, but Barcelona appealed the two-match ban, claiming that Flick was shouting at his players instead.
The Appeals Committee did not listen to these suggestions and will force Flick to be suspended, meaning he will miss out. BarcelonaThe last two games of 2024.
“My actions were not exaggerated,” Flick said after the appeal was rejected. “I tried to talk to Frenkie (de Jong). There was something between Inigo (Martinez) and Vitor Roque.
“I don’t want us to complain to the referees, I don’t want to lose power over things we can’t change, we have to accept the decisions.”
“It was very difficult, but we have to accept it. Maybe I need to improve my behavior. What I ask is that they always whistle the same, the same way. But we have to play well. What I want, and they do, is not to complain to the referees.
“It’s different from a few years ago. Our idea is to do our best. Also the opposition can change. They are human and they make mistakes.”
Flick will now focus on the stand as assistant Marcus Sorg takes direct control from the touchline.
“We mesh well,” Flick said of Sorg. “He has a lot of experience and is doing very well here. He knows a lot about football and he has character.”
