Chelsea will make the long trip to Kazakhstan on Thursday when they face Astana in the Conference League.
The Blues have made major changes to their starting line-up in midweek as they travel over 6,000km and look to maintain their excellent record in the Conference League. Four games to four wins and 18 goals as Enzo Maresca’s side run afoul of Europe’s third most prestigious competition.
Confidence is high for Chelsea ahead of Thursday’s game. They have won all five games since the November international break and closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points at the weekend when they beat Tottenham Hotspur. A 4-3 victory he was inspired by Cole Palmer, who will get a good rest in midweek.
Astana currently play their home games in Almaty – 1,200km away from the Kazakh capital – and have managed just four points from their opening games. Without a win in three European games, they should cause few problems for Chelsea on Thursday.

The 2024 season of the Kazakhstan Premier League ended in early November with Astana finishing second, meaning Grigori Babayan’s side will be rested or rusted when they visit Chelsea on Thursday.
Astana have struggled for goals in the Conference League and will not trouble Chelsea too much. However, Nigerian midfielder Geoffrey Chinedu is the one to watch on Thursday, with the 27-year-old scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances for the club since joining in the summer.

Maresca will take a number of young players to Kazakhstan on Thursday, possibly leaving out the big names. A number of talents have been added to Chelsea’s Conference League squad on UEFA’s website, including Richard Olise, the brother of Bayern Munich star Michael.
In terms of injuries, Chelsea are without Reece James and Wesley Fofana due to hamstring problems – the latter not yet included in the Conference League squad. Mykhailo Mudryk has struggled with illness in recent games and could miss out.
Midfielder Cesare Casadei, who would have been useful in such a game, is unavailable due to suspension after being sent off in the 2-0 win over Heidenheim.
Chelsea vs Astana predictions (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; Olise, Disacea, Adarabio, Veiga; Brother-in-law, Dewsbury-Hall; George, Chukwuemeka, Felix; The director.
Even a changing and young Chelsea XI should have no problem beating Astana comfortably, especially as there will likely be a number of senior players. The Kazakhstani team is away for two weeks and will be praying that their opponents’ jet lag gives them hope for one of the biggest games in their history.
However, Chelsea have leapfrogged some of Europe’s smaller sides in their Conference League campaign so far and should be looking to win their fifth successive league title with little controversy.
