Pizza shop inside Chattanooga, Tennesseesaid it was a “personal concern” decision not to grant same-sex marriage benefits after critics challenged the law.
Wood-fired pizza Pizzeria Cortile sent a message to his Facebook account Tuesday to confirm his position after the left-leaning company expressed its interest the day before.
“Recently we made a difficult decision not to have a wedding because of our beliefs,” Pizzeria Cortile wrote: “This faith comes from a place where we believe in ourselves, which we know that no one has, and which we believe without judging others. This decision was not intended to hurt or harm anyone, and we are sorry for the pain it has caused to the people who have been a part of our community.
“We recognize and hear comments from everyone who has reached out today. We hope that over time we can find the opportunity to increase grace and listen to each other, and remember that even if we don’t always agree, we can treat each other with compassion and respect and love.”

Pizzeria Cortile has disabled comments under this post. However, his Facebook page was flooded with hundreds of negative comments that criticized the idea under some controversial posts.
A previous post from Sunday featuring a photo of one of his dishes received more than 1,500 comments about the controversy in the past 24 hours.
“There are no two sides to this. Nobody asked you to be gay. Or encouraged it message of any kind. He asked for pizza. And the authorities refused. That’s the whole story. It’s not that deep. It’s black and white racism,” one Facebook comment with more than 200 likes read.

“Are you going to start asking your loved ones if they’re having sex when you enter this area?” other high places were despised. “Being gay, am I welcome?… I might as well go ahead and post on your website that you don’t cater to gays anymore.”
Another top comment suggested someone alert the IRS to audit the business.
Online commentators also accused the owners of being “bigots” and wishing their business would suffer from the news.
One commentator defended the business, citing The example of the Supreme Court.
“The Supreme Court has decided on this issue, and it is not discrimination. ,” the comment read.

The flood of negative attention appears to have been driven by posts on Reddit and readers of the progressive website The Chattanooga Holler, which first reported on the company’s policy on Monday.
“INBOX: Apparently, Pizzeria Cortile does not support same-sex marriages. Just letting people not waste their time (or money),” Chattanooga Holler posted on its social media account, along with a photo response from the pizzeria.
“All I hear is ‘We’re allowed to be homophobic,'” one person joked under Holler’s Facebook post.
Another person added: “To say that racism is ‘individual prejudice’ is very confusing.”
A social media post titled, “Big L for Pizzeria Cortile,” on Chattanooga Reddit on Monday also generated more than 900 comments, many of which appeared to be bashing the business.
Pizzeria Cortile did not respond to a request for comment.
