You don’t have to wait 28 years for a sequel 28 years later. In fact, you’ll basically be waiting about 28 weeks.Sony just announced that the sequel Sequel to Danny Boyle’s 2025 Zombies will be released on January 16, 2026, it is called 28 years later. Bone temple and, as we used to knowit was directed by Nia DaCosta.
That’s a lot of numbers and dates, so let’s reset here.In 2002, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland made a zombie movie called 28 days later. The movie was a hit and in 2007 we got a sequel called 28 weeks later. It did well, but the franchise went silent for a while until Garland, who became a famous director himself, came up with a new idea. that movie 28 years laterwill be released on June 20, 2025 and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes. The trailer has just been released and was so successful Sony discovered the original for digital release.
28 years later was created to be the first film in the zombie trilogy though Sony quickly hired Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) to make a sequel to it. It will be the first film that won’t change the time frame by simply adding a subtitle, “The Bone Temple,” whatever that means. Any details on the third installment are still a mystery at this point.
Still, after years of waiting for these sequels, releasing two movies 30 weeks apart (basically six and a half months) is pretty exciting. That kind of thing doesn’t happen very often these days (or, even if it’s planned, it’s usually canceled), so we we’ll see how it goes.
No word on the plot Bone temple because frankly, we don’t really know the plot of it 28 years later yet. But rumor has it that original star Cillian Murphy, the Oscar-winner who produced these films, won’t appear in any major way until this second film in the series.
