Rep. Virginia Foxx, RN.C., responds to President Biden’s fourth attempt to cancel student loan debt on ‘The Big Money Show.’
Two student loan repayment plans have reopened for enrollment by the Department of Education (DOE) following a federal court order against Biden Administration Savings for Essential Education (SAVE) program.
New enrollments in the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and Income-Contingent Repayment (ICR) programs were suspended last summer in an effort to get rid of them and encourage borrowers to sign up for the Biden-Harris SAVE plan, but now people. can write again.
“The Department continues to defend in court that it is responsible for cutting off payments to high-credit and low-income borrowers through the SAVE Plan,” US. Under Secretary of Education James Kvaal said in his statement. “In the meantime, we’re creating more options for low-income borrowers, teachers, government employees, and other government workers so they can make the best decisions about their finances.”
The two schemes that have been revived are Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and income-driven repayment (IDR). Monthly payments are based on the borrower’s income, family size and allow borrowers to be forgiven after “periods of repayment,” the DOE says.

“Many government employees use them to reduce their monthly payments while working to receive PSLF after 10 years,” the DOE press release said.
When SAVE is arrested in court, borrowers do not have credit on their loans and the loans do not earn interest, but they are no longer eligible for PSLF credit or “advancement toward IDR plans.”

Borrowers who are in SAVE cases should not consider changing because they are currently not receiving interest, Forbes report said. However, borrowers who are close to getting loan forgiveness through PSLF, who are close to 120 or who are eligible for PSLF loan repayment may want to consider it, the press release says.
New PAYE and ICR registrations will be open until July 1, 2027, the DOE said.
