Israeli airstrikes target Yemen’s Houthi rebel capital, Sanaa


A series of Israeli airstrikes It targeted Sanaa, Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital, in the early hours of Thursday, setting fire to energy facilities and the Red Sea port city of Hodeida.

“The targets hit by the (Israeli army) were used by Houthi forces for military purposes,” a statement said. “The strikes degrade the Houthi terrorist regime, preventing it from exploiting targets for military and terrorist purposes, including smuggling Iranian weapons into the region.”

Israeli forces carried out attacks on Yemen’s ports and energy infrastructure after the sacking Houthi missiles who were shot down before reaching Israeli territory, according to IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari.

“Rocket and missile sirens sounded following the possibility of debris from the intercept,” the Israeli military said.

Sirens sounded near Tel Aviv and the surrounding area, and at that moment a large explosion was heard overhead. The Houthis did not immediately claim the missile attack, but said a statement would be issued within hours, following a pattern of how the group claims its assaults.

The Houthis have carried out attacks in Israel and sent in a campaign to support the Palestinians as Israel continues its war on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 45,000 people, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.

The terrorist group has targeted more than 100 people merchant ships since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.

Houthi-controlled media outlets are currently offering no information on damage or casualties from Thursday’s strikes.
