The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a “minimum recall” of one of the most popular potato chips in the US due to an unknown allergen.
The recall affects certain 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, according to a Frito-Lay statement published by the FDA on Monday.
According to officials, the bags may contain unknown milk. Frito-Lay told FOX Business that 6,344 bags are affected by the recall.
“The information included in the recall was shared with other retailers and e-commerce retailers in Oregon and Washington,” the company explained in a statement. “Consumers would be able to buy a large number of chips from November 3, 2024.”

Frito-Lay is urging consumers to check their 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips for the “Guaranteed Fresh” date that reads “11 FEB 2025,” and the production code 6462307xx or 6463307xx. Any bags containing this information should be discarded by consumers who are allergic to milk.
“Those with allergies or sensitivities to milk are at risk of serious or life-threatening complications if they consume the recalled products,” Frito-Lay said.

The press release stated that the suspicious milk was found “after a consumer alert,” but said no allergic reactions had occurred.

“There are no complaints regarding this matter that have been reported so far,” the statement added. “No other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes or different packages are being recalled.”
It is not uncommon for a food distributor to recall a product due to unknown milk restrictions. In March, the Pennsylvania company recalled more than 1,600 chocolates because of the correction.
