A senior Russian official died after a bomb exploded outside his Moscow apartment early Tuesday, investigators said, killing him and an aide.
Russia’s Investigative Committee, which is the main body of the investigation, said that Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the army’s nuclear, chemical and biological forces, died in an explosion caused by a bomb placed on a scooter.
Kirillov, the most famous soldier killed since the beginning of Russia full invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he always accused Kyiv of wanting to use chemical weapons and develop a nuclear “dirty bomb”.
Ukraine’s security agency SBU had already reported “suspicious information” – essentially a document – to Kirillov for “war crimes” against Kyiv’s military.
The SBU official declined to comment.
A statement from the SBU on Monday said that Kirillov was “responsible for using weapons prohibited by the Russian people against the security forces in eastern and southern Ukraine”.
It blamed him for “more than 4,800 cases of using the enemy’s weapons (which) have been recorded since the beginning of the great war”.
