Boxing Results: Jaime Munguia Stopped By Bruno Surace!


Former WBO Light middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) was upset and stopped by EBU Silver middleweight champion Bruno Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) at 2:36 of the sixth round of the 10th fight on Saturday at night in Tijuana, Mexico.

In the first round, Munguia had a slight edge with both punches after the bell, so referee Juan Jose Ramirez had to step in and stop it.

In the second round, after one minute, Munguia landed a left hook to the chin and went to Surace for the first time in his career due to the 8-count from Referee Ramirez. He managed to reach the bell. In the third round, Munguia had Surace on the defensive around the perimeter, especially against the ropes, and had a chance to survive the bell.

In the fourth quarter, it was all about Munguia. With half a minute left, Surace landed his best punch of the fight, a right to the chin that rocked Munguia. In the sixth round Munguia had Surace against the ropes several times but was unable to land enough punches to finish Surace.

Munguia landed a left to the chin in the sixth round, keeping Surace on the ropes. Surace countered with a right to the chin, and Mulunguia landed on his back, not winning the count at 9, but referee Ramirez saw enough and wisely stopped it. It took ten minutes for Ring Announcer Jimmy Lennon, Jr. announce a suspension for more than ten minutes.

Junior middleweight Jorge ‘Chino’ Garcia, 32-4 (26), defeated Kudratillo ‘The Punisher’ Abdukakhorov, 20-4 (12) by a ten-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, Abdukakhorov defeated Garcia. In the fifth round, Garcia climbed the ladder in support of Abdukakhorov.

In the sixth round, Abdukakhorov continued the reform of the south and returned to Orthodoxy.

In the ninth round, Garcia finished the stronger of the two. In the eleventh round, Garcia was hurt by Abdukakhorov in the final seconds.

Scores 97-92, 99-90 and 99-90.

In the Co-Main Event, Super Bantamweight Alan Picasso, 31-0-1 (17), defeated southpaw Yehison Cuello, 13-3-1 (11) at 1:55 of the third round of the ten scheduled rounds.

In the first two rows, it was all Picasso. In the third round, a left hook to the body dropped Cuello to a full count from Referee Juan Jose Ramirez.

Super Bantamweight Sebastian ‘Logan’ Hernandez Reyes, 18-0 (17), stopped Sergio ‘El Canalla’ Sosa, 14-5-3 (3) at 2:59 in the seventh bout of his ten bouts.

In the first three rounds, Sosa worked on Hernandez’s body. In the fourth round, Sosa had Hernandez against the ropes several times in the round. In the fifth round, Hernandez came back with his pick.

In the seventh round, Hernandez left Sosa defenseless with a flurry of punches, prompting Referee Edgar Lopez to stop.

WBC Youth Continental Champion Christian ‘El Pelon’ Islas, 11-3-1 (7), defeated southpaw Juan Anacona, 13-1 (6), over eight rounds.

Anacona was limited in the first three categories. Islas had his best race in the fifth round, despite suffering a bloody nose.

In the last six seconds, the action was stopped when Islas complained about his right eye from Anacona’s left. In the seventh round, Islas’ nose was bleeding, and his right eye was partially closed. In the eighth and final quarter, Anacona had Islas on defense, who was being helped.

Results 79-73, 77-75, 78-74.
