Ashley Sharp Chestnut All for the magic of Christmas movies – but she’s not a fan of illusions in her personal life.
The actress, 32, stars on OWN’s Mistletoe and marriage and her character, Olivia’s love interest, Isaiah (Etienne Morris), has a few tricks up his sleeves (literally) to try to win her back.
Aramon told exclusively Us Weekly on Thursday, December 12, that her company can and “actually did” the magic on set. “That’s also what was funny. (Our production director) on set, he was actually a magician as well,” she shared.
She noted that Morris, on the other hand, received little help in improving his skills, which impressed her on set.
“He said he lived near—do you know that Magic Castle in Los Angeles.? Apparently growing up, Etty lived next door to the founder of this,” Chestnut said, referring to Los Angeles’ famous Magic Castle, where guests can enjoy dinner and a magician’s show. “Isn’t that wild?”
She continued: “If I remember correctly, it was the founder or their child. Either way they lived nearby, and he was already close to, like, the wizarding world. So he already had a foot in that way.”
While Chestnut was impressed by her friends’ talents, she said us She is hesitant to date a full-fledged sorceress herself.
“I’m fine with magic. I’m not fine with Illusory mind tricks Because it scares me,” she confessed. “I feel like David Blaine And these kind of guys, I feel like they are aliens. Like, there’s no way these people could actually do that. It’s so cool to me.”
When it comes to mistletoe and marriage, The figures are tied to that of Isaiah Sweet magicBut that’s not the heart of the story. The OWN holiday film, premiering Saturday, December 14, follows wedding planner Olivia, who enlists to plan her sister’s wedding just weeks before Christmas.
While Olivia finds great success in Chicago, she is faced with Sister Rosemary (Asha James) and her future sister-in-law Gwen (Krista Nazier) best friend, Isaiah, who happens to be Olivia’s ex-boyfriend.
After years of putting her love life on the line – partly because of the breakup with Isiah and because her mother fell and needed extra help around the house – Olivia must decide what she really wants from a relationship. Throw in some holiday mishaps, magic and, of course, romance, and Olivia’s plate is full.
For Chestnut, be the Christmas movie heads was on her “bucket list”, but the character’s “goal-oriented” mindset and ability to care “very much” about her family are what really drew her to the role.
Chestnut noted that as Olivia’s journey unfolds and she remembers her dream of becoming a travel destination wedding planner, fans will grow to love her even more. Especially since it’s about Olivia finding her voice and possible love.
The actress teased that there are “little nuggets” throughout the film that hint at Olivia becoming an empowered woman. Chestnut said us Isaiah is doing his best to be the “confidence booster” Olivia needs to stand up to her sister and put herself first.
“It’s kind of (he’s saying) like, ‘Hey, this, it’s not your fault (your mom fell). You’ve got to live your life,'” Chestnut said. “I think we all need that reminder.”
When it comes to her family, Chestnut explained that it’s always “family first” which is similar to her personality. “But you also have to take care of yourself and take care of yourself too. Because if you’re not 100 percent, how can you really bring that to anyone else in your life that you really care about?”
Although Chestnut hinted that Olivia will find balance in her life, when it comes to a future with her ex-boyfriend, he played coy about the ending.
“I think Olivia goes back and forth. She sees the possibility of, ‘Oh, let’s travel the world, you know, do these destination weddings,’ but she’s also scarred by this man she trusted,” she explained. “It’s like, ‘How can you go back and how do you rebuild the trust we had in the past?'”
Whatever the outcome, Chestnut said she wants viewers to give the “heartwarming” and “inspiring” film centered on “love, faith and hope” a real sink in this holiday season.
“We’re all connected in many ways. I think that’s why people really like Christmas movies because it’s the time of year when… people in general are just filled with the spirit of kindness,” she concluded.
