Recently beaten WBO junior middleweight champion Mulunguia (44-1, 35 KOs) will be looking for an easy win on his debut against non-elite French fighter Surace (20-0-2, 4 KOs).
This is the 28-year-old Munguia’s comeback from his last bout against Erik Bazinyan on September 20th. It’s possible that given the short time frame, Munguia’s promoters didn’t want to compare him to a fighter on the level or better than Bazinyan for fear of being beaten.
In a separate weigh-in, bantamweight contender Alan Picasso (30-0-1, 16 KOs) weighed in at 125.9 lbs, and his opponent Yehison Cuello (13-2-1, 11 KOs) weighed in at 124.6 lbs for their Championship round. 10.

– Alan Picasso 125.9 vs. Jehison Neck 124.6
– Jorge Garcia Perez 154.3 vs. Kudratillo Abdukakhorov 158.2
Sebastian Hernandez 123.6 vs. Sergio Martin Sosa 123.2

Munguia lost for the first time in his 11-year career on May 4th against Canelo Alvarez. The defeat was slow, but Munguia had not yet faced superior opposition, which protected him. Fans believe that Munguia was protected all these years in order to earn more money against Canelo.
Now that it’s done, the process begins again, and Munguia has matched the smaller fighters, hoping to reach the #1 spot in the rematch against Canelo. If that’s the gambet, it’s a no-brainer, but when you see Munguia match Surace and Bazinyan in back-to-back fights, you can only imagine.
“He is a strong warrior. He throws a lot of mixes. We have to be careful with that. I have studied him, and I believe in the work we have done. “I will leave my hand raised in victory,” said Munguia.
“If I knew how to get rid of him, I’d bet all my money on it. But I don’t know. It’s unknown. I can tell you now for sure that I’ll be looking to knock him out.”
