Australia National Cricket Team opener Nathan McSweeney has spoken about the challenges he is facing Jasprit Bumrah. He issued a warning to the fast bowler that he would throw a punch at the fast bowler at the Gabba.
India National Cricket Team captain Jasprit Bumrah has made life difficult for the Australian Cricket Team’s batsmen in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. The fast bowler is the leading wicket taker in the list with 12 wickets to his name.
Jasprit Bumrah has bowled good lines and lengths in the two matches so far and looks very dangerous with the ball. The fast bowler has had his number surpassed by Nathan McSweeney in two matches as the Australian opener in the series has been given a tough time by the pacer.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nathan McSweeney in two innings in Perth and also had his number in Adelaide in the first innings. But the batsman looked solid in the second game as he scored 39 not out and 10 not out, helping Australia make a successful comeback in the series with a 10-wicket win.
Nathan McSweeney, talking about his experience of playing with Jasprit Bumrah, said that nothing could stop him too much, especially when facing players like him at the beginning of his career. He said he will take confidence from his Adelaide Test. Speaking to Cricket Australia, he said:
“To get a bowler like Jasprit at the beginning of my career, it doesn’t get much tougher than that. I take confidence to go through in Adelaide. The more I face him, the more comfortable I am when I fight him.”
“To face him for the first time – he’s a very special bowler. He’s obviously world-class and a little bit different from most bowlers I’ve come across. (It’s about) his angle and where he delivers at the crease.”
Nathan McSweeney, while talking about the departure of Jasprit Bumrah, said that he will do better against him. He added that he is hopeful of throwing punches at the pacer at the Gabba. He explained that:
“I got two really good balls from him, so I try to wear that on the chin and believe that what I’ve been doing will be good. He got me again in Adelaide – he’s a great bowler, and I’m a good bowler. I’m enjoying the ability to try and make game plans against a top player. , I hope I will be in good shape when I face him and I can throw a few punches here at the Gabba.
Nathan McSweeney also spoke about playing at the Gabba, saying that the batsmen can trust the bounce here and added that if the new ball is hit well, the batsmen can bat for a long time. He explained that:
“I love playing here – the wicket has a lot of bounce. A good batting at the Gabba is about as good as it gets. You can trust this bounce, and don’t fight this bounce, and score one wicket.”
“If you stay long, the game can open up, and you can score very quickly. It’s definitely a new-ball wicket, and if you can get through that, it’s a beautiful place to bat.”
