David Bonderman, co-founder of TPG and owner of the Seattle Kraken, has died at the age of 82.

Billionaire David Bondermanwho co-founded the $239 billion wealth management company TPG, died Wednesday at the age of 82.

Bonderman helped transform the company from a three-person office to a $24.3 billion private equity firm. Today, TPG has a global workforce of over 1,800 people, with 28 offices around the world, and invests in a variety of sectors, including technology, healthcare, real estate and consumer goods.

“David was an individual pioneer, legal expert, environmentalist, and global citizen and his legacy will live on with those who had the opportunity to meet him,” TPG said.

Bonderman was a lawyer by training Investment world through her connection to Robert “Bob” Bass, who asked her to move to Fort Worth, Texas, to help run his family business.

Prior to working in the financial world, Bonderman worked as a trial attorney racism in the southern US as a special assistant to the US attorney general during the administration of President Lyndon Johnson.

At the Bass Family Office he met Jim Coulter, who became his business partner for over 38 years. Bonderman and Coulter eventually left Bass and proposed to buy Continental Airlines. out of bankruptcy in 1992.

PRIVATE-EQUITY FIRM TPG RAISES $1 BILLION IPO

The following year, the two teamed up with Bill Price to start the private equity firm TPG, and turned a $66 million investment in Continental into a life-changing deal that brought the company 10 times the profits. TPG went public Early 2022 at a value of more than $10 billion, and Bonderman was a shareholder and board member since its inception.

Bonderman has served on the boards of more than 80 companies throughout his career, including an automobile manufacturer. General Motors the request of the US government, the airline Ryanair and Kite Pharmaceutical.

He was also a board member of the Wilderness Society, the World Wildlife Fund, the American Himalayan Foundation and the Grand Canyon Trust.

Bonderman was also the owner National Hockey League games 32nd franchise expansion, Seattle Kraken.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Bonderman, founder of the Seattle Kraken,” the band said. “A visionary leader, David helped bring the 32nd NHL franchise to Seattle. His contributions to business, conservation, music and sports will be long remembered.”
