It Origin PC Neuron 3500X looks like the part of an expensive gaming PC. Corsair wisely ships its Origin PCs in huge wooden boxes that you have to open yourself. Tucked inside that box is a vaudeville act one box covered in a foam crown and foam shoes. If you’re like me, you rush to your computer like a kid at your desk. You shouldn’t be like me be, because this is where if you open it wrong, you could accidentally roll one of the panels to the ground.
Origin PC Neuron 3500X
The Origin PC Neuron 3500X looks like it’s sitting on your desk, but there are some issues with the 3500X’s case design.
Side:
Against
This is the type of computer that looks much more structurally sound than in person. At least it keeps cool and looks cool. The air comes in from the bottom and out the side to the top. It’s an efficient, well-proven layout that will keep things cool and quiet. The RGB lights offer a glow that fills my little gamer’s heart with subtle joy.
The aquarium tank case has caught on for a good reason. Now you can see your precious gaming stuff from more angles. Unfortunately, I have issues with the Corsair 3500X mid-tower case. It looks good, but you should avoid anything heavy to prevent your square box from turning into a toaster oven.
My setup of the Origin Neuron 3500X was going for about $3,387 MSRP, but Origin dropped it to $2,888 at the time of this review. At least it comes with free shipping at this price, though you’ll need to break out the firewood box. That’s a fair price for what you’re getting but part of me knows you can demand better from your desktop towers. If looks are everything was, then the computer in its aquarium tank case would be picture perfect.A few details detract from the overall solid production.
The three Corsair fans are particularly nice and attractive, and the default iCUE software makes it easy to change the fan color and pattern at once. The Vengeance RGB DDR5 RAM sticks and the Capellix XT cooling unit match the aesthetics.
But I have other problems with the Corsair 3500 mid-tower. The Y-grill looks neat, but it also makes the top sheet bend towards the center. You shouldn’t write any books or other tricks on the main PC fan, though. but its slightly concave shape makes it less attractive. On the top of the box there is one USB-C port and a 3.6mm headphone jack.MSI Z890-P there are two additional USB-Cs on the rear I/O panel if you need to connect additional dongles or cables.
All of the panels are press fit ball and socket joints, these managed to hold it tight for the short trip from the box to my desk, but as soon as I opened the main panel to remove that pesky packing phone, I accidentally pushed the front panel and almost rolled it to the floor. Both the main and rear panels are located behind the front glass makes it easy.If you’re considering this chassis, you’ll need to be extra careful when diving into your fishbowl for regular maintenance.
Unlike some other pre-built desktops, you can buy eg Alienware Aurora R16There is no dedicated bracket for the GPU. Instead, it relies on the rear bracket and the PCIe Express slot to keep it balanced. This is really only an issue when moving the PC around, but the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super is a large and chargeable card you apply some force to the end beyond the motherboard.
At least the PC is quiet. The low hum of the fans when idle is soothing, and even under stress the tower never gets too loud to distract. The inside of the PC offers a spacious interior where you still have two RAMs slot and one PCIe Gen 5 slot to play with if you opt for the larger Nvidia cards. When you open the back, you’ll see that the cables are neatly organized—that is, until you see them the mess of cables going every which way to the PSU.
But if you’re buying this PC to have a great-looking PC that bathes you in cool RGB glow, the Origin 3500X does the job perfectly I find that there are too many design details for the Corsair case, which hurts its overall rating.
The configuration Corsair sent me included 32GB of DDR5, 6400 MT/s of RAM, an RTX 4080 Super, and the latest Intel Arrow Lake processor, the Core Ultra 9 285K. should overclock to 5.7 GHz, at least according to the designers.
Until I came across Origin, I had yet to fully immerse myself in Intel’s latest desktop-level processor. laptop chips.
However, I’ve also heard some grumbling about the chip’s performance compared to the latest generation of desktop chips, such as the Intel Core i9-14900K , as much as 14900K. Maingear MG-1 with the same GPU, but with Intel’s 14th generation gaming processor, the Ultra 9 scored about 200 points lower in Geekbench 6 and more than 1500 points lower in the multi-core tests Cinebench multi-core rendering tasks at around 65 points.
None of my CPU benchmarks did anything to chip enthusiast’s claims that Arrow Lake is better in performance, but in 3D Mark tests, along with the RTX 4080 Super, Maingear’s PC. scored better in the 3D Mark Time Spy and Steel Nomad benchmarks.
It’s not like you won’t get excellent gaming performance from this Origin PC, I put the machine through its paces in several games at different resolutions. In Cyberpunk 2077 non-benchmark game at 3440 x 1440 ultrawide resolution, I could get about 50 FPS at highest settings, ray tracing enabled and no DLSS. Thanks to Nvidia’s enhancement, you can get up to 90 FPS in violent scenes, Cyberpunk starts at 30 FPS at 4K.
You really can’t expect more from a computer at this price. Baldur’s Gate III was very smooth, 105 FPS outdoors in Act 1 and around 87 FPS in the city, I was playing Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 I was seeing around 90 FPS in chaotic scenes.
You can expect to max out the most demanding titles.I averaged 70 FPS with DLSS Horizon Forbidden West and about 90 FPS in inches God of War: Ragnarok. The system rates games well and plays them well. The only problem is that it’s not as clean an experience as you’ll get with a 14th gen Intel processor. The Neuron model has options up to AMD Ryzen 9950x to be, you can wait for the expected dram 9950x3d drop next year
The Origin Neuron is a solid computer that looks especially good sitting on your bedroom desk, and it can bathe your entire bedroom in RGB glow is a handy kind of desktop, though you can’t just rip it out of its wooden home and cardboard bed and go gaming without some forethought. As sturdy as it looks, it is some poor design choices that require you to baby it.
