For almost seven years, as founder, CEO and publisher of Side houseI have spent my time researching and reviewing platforms that aim to help people make extra money. A common question I get is, “How can I convert what I already have? a side hustle?”
If, for example, you find that you are rich but cash poor, there are actually several ways you can use your home to earn passive income — and you don’t need a roommate to do it.
After looking through over 500 online platforms, I discovered that several allow you to monetize your living space by renting out pieces of it for a specific purpose, such as storage.
Best of all, these housing busts are low maintenance side gigs that don’t require a lot of time or effort on your part. This is my best advice if you want to turn your home into a potential lucrative side hustle.

Some places, including Neighbor i Stacheit allows people with empty space to rent it for storage. This can be part of a attic or basement, an empty bay in the garage, a room, a closet, even the space under the bed.
All you have to do is measure the dimensions of your empty space, take some photos and propose a fair price to rent it. Most peer-to-peer storage rental sites will provide guidance on average rates in your neighborhood. The price you charge is ultimately up to you.
You can set restrictions. Most storage companies, including these rigs, gun bars or anything dangerous, as well as any items of high value such as artwork, cash, securities and jewellery, for example. And you can limit how often customers can access your products and ask to call ahead.
A place called Sniffspot connect people with closed yards with pet owners who want a quiet place to play.
Owners set their own rates, which typically range from $10 to $25 per hour per animal. They determine whether they offer amenities such as tennis balls and benches for pet owners to sit on.
All you have to do is post a profile, set your rates and leave the door open. The site offers $1 million in liability protection for hosts, as well as limited damage coverage.
do you have a pool It can also be rented by the hour through a site called Swimply.
Just post a profile, set rates, take photos and tell potential visitors what they have access to besides the pool and deck. For example, is there a toilet or changing room they can use? Does the pool area have a BBQ available for guests?
While these additional amenities are not a requirement to include your pool, you are likely to get more bookings with these types of additional amenities.
Notably, Swimply also automatically provides liability and some damage coverage to protect hosts.
Various sites, incl Giggster, Wow! i Space between equals — specialized in finding unique spaces for filming, photo sessions and events we encourage you to rent your house by the hour. A house that can be rented for $100 a night on Airbnb can be rented for $100 an hour here.
Tenants are expected to leave the property in the same condition as they found it, so there is generally no need to add a cleaning fee. However, you can add additional fees (such as for an on-site representative or cleaning fee) if you wish.
You decide what kind of events you are willing to organize, whether tenants have access to the whole house or only parts of it, and the maximum number of people allowed.
You also set your own rates and determine the terms, such as whether the renter needs to purchase event insurance to host a party at your venue, which I would highly recommend.
You can also set minimum rental times of, say, four hours. That way, you’ll know that whenever you get a booking, you’ll earn enough to make it worthwhile.
